A series of 12 auditions are hold twice a year.
About 1, 000 people are expected each time to compete for the 300 permits that are given to perform in the Paris Metro.
The successful candidates are given permission to perfom for six months.
Not surprisingly, hundreds of illegal performers are removed by the Metro police.
So why are there performers competing for a permit that doesn't enable them to earn a lot of money?
