Para mí, eso debería ser : Maecha had been considered one of the best students, last year.

He had been interested on doing his homework, he had participated in class, and If he had striven more, he would have been the best at the national level.

In his leisure time he would have enjoyed being outdoor with the fresh air if he hadn't been studying and studying.

On the other hand, he had hobbies, more than studying, he enjoyed spending his time researching on internet.

And if he had gone through social networks he wouldn't have probably been who he's now.

Finally he had won a medal by winning a contest, which he had been studying for, so if he hadn't studied he wouldn't have won.
