For example, in 1980, Rosie Ruiz won the Boston Marathon by joining the race one kilometre from the finish line!
If Ruiz hadn't tried to cheat, marathon organizer probably wouldn't have indroduced microchips to track runners.
Thanks to technology, it's unlikely someone finds a way to cheat today unless they will be really clever.
If they did, the organizers would see them on camera.
