Uses Amitraz dip is used in dogs for the treatment of generalized demodicosis, an infestation with the mite Demodex canis. It has also been used to treat mange in some other species of animals. Dose and Administration Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the treatment, contact your veterinarian. Long and medium - haired dogs should be clipped closely prior to treatment. All dogs should be bathed with a mild soap and water and towel dried prior to treatment. This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed. Possible Side Effects The most common side effect is sedation, which may last up to 72 hours. Drug, Food, and Test Interactions Consult your veterinarian before using amitraz dip with vitamins, supplements, corticosteroids, or other immunosuppressant drugs, since interactions may occur. Signs of Toxicity / Overdose Amitraz may be toxic if swallowed. Toxic signs include weakness, depression, incoordination, vomiting, and slow heart rate. If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.
