Billy Elliot is a boy who lives with his father Jackie and his brother Tony in a small mining town in England, both father and brother are miners and are on a long strike that leads them to exhaust the scarce resources available to them.

Billy practices boxing, sport instilled by his father and that is a tradition not only in his family, but throughout the town, one day during his training, Billy sees some girls learning ballet and decides to imitate them.

The ballet teacher sees Billy as an unusual talent for dance and encourages him to attend classes, but in a place like Everington that is not easy, since he considers that boys should only box or play football, apart from of the difficult economic situation.

Billy is delighted with the ballet and goes to classes hidden from his father and brother, one day he has the opportunity to audition to win a scholarship at the Royal Ballet, one of the most important dance schools.

After rehearsing a lot he can not go to the audition, since he must attend a trial against his brother, for causing damage to a policeman's horse.

One afternoon Billy's father discovers his son dancing and is impressed by what he is capable of doing, from that moment the conservative mentality of the father and his brother with respect to the dance changes.

Thus, when Billy has the opportunity to attend another audition in London his own father, with the financial help of the whole town, accompanies him to the audition, the boy approves and is selected to be part of the prestigious school, Royal Ballet.

In the end, the boy realizes his dream and stars in an important work as a principal dancer, amid the applause and cheers of his family and neighbors.
